Samsung Galaxy S4, White 16GB (Verizon Wireless)

The Galaxy S4 emerged as a clear evolution of the "King" its predecessor, the Galaxy S3, which was seen as a turning of the page in the form of using a smartphone. Was more than proven that the Galaxy S3 was created with a "recipe" for success. Was very well received, both for its processing capabilities and hardware, either by connection that can create with the user, understanding it in different situations of day-to-day.

The Galaxy S4 follows the same past and goes well beyond what is the Galaxy S3. There is no doubt that is aesthetically very similar, and this fact was particularly disappointed that you have in your presentation, but it is a completely redesigned and quite different smartphone.

1 - General characteristics

Before too, the model we have access to is the I9505. Towards the i9500 differs only in SoC (Chipset, CPU and GPU), where the i9500 is equipped with a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5410, Quad-core CPU @ 1.6GHz Cortex-A15 + Quad-core @ 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 and PowerVR SGX GPU 544MP3 and the I9505 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, CPU Quad-core 1.9GHz Krait GPU Adreno 300 and 320.
The performance of the Exynos 5 is slightly higher than 600 Snapdragon, but is not "decisive" and is only in some situations. This comparison will be soon, in more detail.

Either version has support for connecting to mobile networks LTE, it is now practically a requirement, at least in high-end smartphones. For those who have coverage of this network, then it is always beneficial to use it, as already mentioned in our analysis vs. 3G 4G. However, it should be borne in mind that it requires more energy resources.
The Galaxy S4 is available in two colors, black and white ice fog, has a Super AMOLED 5 "screen (keeping the same dimension in housing S3) FullHD resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels with a dizzying density 441ppp. Its thickness of only 7.9mm, has more improved and a more careful finishing touch. The screen can also be used with regular gloves.

It has a 13MP camera with several innovations, partly achieved by new Camera application. The front camera is 2MP and can record video in 1080p, extremely useful for anyone who likes to shoot himself.
The included version of Android is 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and the interface is the TouchWiz from Samsung, now a little different in order to adjust to the new features of gestures available.

2 - Hardware and design

Smartphones are the trend of the big screen and Samsung's "Pro" in it. The predecessor Galaxy S3, although not huge, was very well received and the Samsung did not venture to increase its size, thus keeping it exactly the same but including a larger screen that do not affect the use. This was only possible because it was decreased the thickness of the frame from the front, taking advantage of more space.

After using the smartphone for some time followed (a mere 15 minutes of normal use) is evident rise in temperature in the upper zone. This time SoC was placed on top, since the Galaxy S3 was at the bottom. This may be due to comfort issues, as the most common form of use is vertical and the grip at the bottom. Thus the unavoidable heat interferes less with the user.
Surrounding the entire smartphone there is a gray, continuous and without variations in track width, which gives a more classic and refined touch along with the existing throughout the rest of the standard smartphone: Samsung calls it the Stylish design.

The Power and Volume buttons are more care with a bright lip with yet more slack than I would wish. Not also liked the touch of the Home button which looks like it comes out too (after removing the pocket, for example) and gives a little extra snap. After doing this a first time, no longer around to doing until the smartphone suffers some jerks (back in his pocket).
Looking ahead, at the top, are the sensors and the camera. There is an additional sensor to recognize movements and a RGB LED is shifted more toward the top. Unfortunately greatly diminished the intensity of light over its predecessor, which upset me.

Still ahead, at the bottom, there are already standard touch buttons (menu and back) and the physical Home button.

On the left side there is only volume control knob. As already mentioned, this button has a more interesting finish, comparing with the existing S3.
Another change that bothered me was moving the volume up button. To pick up the smartphone during a call, it is quite common to have to adjust the volume on the earpiece. Galaxy S3 on the volume knob is positioned in an ideal place where your fingers are always on or very near that place, that due to the base of the device always be touching the palm of the hand to grasp it, even for security reasons. In the Galaxy S4, the fingers (either thumb, in the case of the left hand, or index / average in the case of the right hand) simply do not reach the Volume + and need help with your other hand or run the risk of dropping it. In the 2nd picture below is quite evident the difference.

On the right side is the power button and the access slot to remove the cover, which has now gone to the top of this side.

At the top, left-most, there is the infra-red transmitter to control the TV (WatchON application) immediately afterwards is a microphone jack and 3.5mm.

At the bottom is nothing more than a microphone and a micro USB port.

Behind the camera is on top and the LED Flash logo below. The loudspeaker shifted in relation to the Galaxy S3, S4 Galaxy and now lies at the bottom.
I suspect that the change of venue is secure with the need to improve the sound that reaches the user. As? How is the Galaxy S4, being the most common vertical position to grab the smartphone underhand, the sound will be reflected in the hand and designed for the user with a better environment, instead leaving it scattered back. I have not seen this "theory" in some place, but immediately noticed the sound difference so appeared content with sound, without even realizing it that the speaker had actually changed position.

Inside you can see that now both slots (SIM and microSD) are placed above the battery. Above the second SIM card contacts are used to connect the cover to wireless charging, thus permitting the use of clips by magnetic induction.

The battery is a bit larger than the previous one, since the capacity also increased from 2100mAh to 2600mAh.

Comparing the screen alongside the Galaxy S3, both in terms of brightness or hue, are very approximate but the Galaxy S4 are evident more consistent white (they are slightly "hot" at the Galaxy S3) and the generality of the truest colors. In terms of brightness, maximum, Galaxy S4 was also somewhat higher but negligible.
